Is there an easy way to tell if the sound card is just dead? Also, what was the reason you reinstalled Windows sonud the first place?

I did some research on the internet and people have been saying that the hp pavilion dv is known to have motherboard issues, and that repairs don’t really help it.

So I’ve got an HP Pavilion dv6700 and the audio doesn’t work.

I don’t think that’s high enough to do any damage, but could it be a hardware problem and I would need jp repair? The sound driver is gone, and when it worked that one time the driver was back. HP lists multiple versions of the DV on their website. Now I can’t reinstall any of the two drivers because it gives the error “Driver Installation Failed: I went over to device manager and checked under “Sound, Video, and Game Controllers” and my audio driver was completely missing!


Please help me to install sound card.

I don’t see anything anywhere listing Realtek or any other sound device. I shouldn’t have to be getting it repaired.

I downloaded and installed the driver DerekC gave me and it said I needed a reboot. Then I unplugged them. They’ve done everything db6700 of doing a full recall.

I mean, no hardware defect could reasonably make the speakers and headphone jacks stop working.
